What Should I Make My Website About?

This is first question that pops into the minds of webmasters when they decide to make a new website. There are so many things you can do. You can start a blog, you can personally code your own website or buy an already made php (or other server-side language) script. A main though that will come to your mind is, what type of website makes the most money.

There a many bloggers out there who make pennies a day to thousands an hour. People who code their own site who get no traffic (therefore no money) and some who can't keep up with their bandwidth. Many people also succeed with premade scripts, but nearly 90% fail. Usually the people who succeed are the ones who originally made it because they made so much from selling their script. I personally own a website that is a premade script, and it is NOT worth it. Blog or write your own website.

Blogging is hard. Everyday you have to keep on chuging writing countless articles and posts, with the 50/50 chance that you won't succeed and ever get good traffic (therefore money). Of course if your posting quality articles about subjects people will read, your going to succeed to some degree.

Writing your own website is hard to really talk about because they are all different.

But, when this question comes to your mind, there is one thing that should NOT. How am I going to make money from this? Which way is it best to monitize this or that? 85% of bloggers who start blogging for the sole purpose of making money, stop writing in their blog within 6 months. 85 percent. Thats a really big number when you think about how many bloggers there are. The question you should think about is: "If I am (your age/gender), what would I like to see as a website." Teens might say a free SMS sender. College kids might say a website that reviews and lists websites useful for research. An adult might want a website about finances and things to think about for later in life. Once you have this idea, hold it tight, keep it a secret and begin working on it. Now after you've established this website, got a little bit of traffic and you think your ready to earn from the fruits of your labor, you ask "How can I make money from this?" And there are many options (which I won't go into now). If you run the free SMS sending website, you can make it so that when it sends the message, at the end of the message it has a little advertisement "- sent from (your website here - and suggest it in the 'yourwebsite.com" format). Then you can sign-up for an affilate network and offer incentives to people to use your SMS sender. Now you market your self for free and your making a little from the affiliate network. For the list of reviewed sites that are good for research you could go a little grey hat and put ads inbetween websites or intext ads (ads that take text, give it 2 underlines, turns it into a link and the link becomes an advertisement). For the website for adults about finances and later in life things, these are perfect for contextual ads (like Google AdSense) because they are looking for good companies to invest in and good banks and Money Market account to put their money into so later in life they don't have to live on Social Security. And finance related terms are good money makers!

So remember, think about what people are looking for before asking yourself, how much money am I looking for. Believe me. If you don't you'll learn the hard way.
